Friday - While Stopping at the Fair Grounds to check out the progress of the track conditions, hoping to see some Racing Tonight after 3 rain outs, I stopped to look at Van's Midway Stage, and took this not so bad photo with my cell phone, will get better photo's when time permits. They should be done by next weekend.   By the Way We Did get Racing in Last Night at Luxemburg Speedway.

July 3rd 2008

Just stopped down at the fair grounds, on vacation.  Here are some more pictures of the Stage, it's near completion by this point.  The Railing on the front has bolts that can be pulled out so that the railing can be removed for better viewing.  That's all for now, I'll get a few more when it's complete.  Have a Happy and Safe 4th Of July Weekend.                                               Click to Read the Lee Lawrenz "Van's Midway Stage" Article

After The Fair Reports

Story from Lee Lawrenz - • Kewaunee County News • July 23, 2008

The 91st annual Kewaunee County Fair in Luxemburg, or the Big K as it was billed, enjoyed both very good weather and attendance during its four-day run from July 17-20, according to fair secretary Al Hoppe. Advertisement The biggest crowd was on Saturday night, July 19, to see the band, Little Texas, perform on the midway stage. The band got a good lead-in from Grand Union, a rocking country band from Appleton. "It was huge — close to record breaking," Hoppe said. "It was packed tight, elbow to elbow. It was one of our biggest crowds ever." Saturday night also brought the only rain of the fair, but it wasn't enough to douse the festivities. It came at about 11 p.m., with Little Texas having just three songs left. The band played and the crowd mostly stayed through the rain. Meanwhile, the demolition derby in front of the grandstand put on a good show, but the number of cars and the attendance were both down a bit, "due to the economy." Friday night brought the next biggest crowd, due to both the 1980s big hair tribute band, Cherry Pie, performing on the midway and the tractor pull in front of the grandstand. "There was a younger crowd. (Cherry Pie) gave a great classic rock tribute. It was very high energy and kept the crowd around," Hoppe said. "The tractor pull also drew well with the hot farm smoker's class bringing a lot of excitement." Fair president David Wessel said the Thursday night oldies rock 'n' roll show crowd was "all right," with Spice a good opening band for national act Sony Geraci and the Outsiders. "Geraci put on a good show. He was a professional," Hoppe said. "Attendance was very good every night — Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It got better every day," Hoppe said. Wessel said the fair board heard "a lot of comments on the variety of food on the midway and the excellent quality. The strawberry sundaes for dessert (from the Kewaunee County Dairy Promotion Committee) were excellent. They never quit dipping (for ice cream) from early in the morning until late at night." Wessel said the carnival rides were well attended on the weekend afternoons. "They were lined up for a block." Hoppe said the fair board heard favorable comments about "the barns and exhibits. Everyone was impressed how well organized everything went and how attractive the barns were. It's a tribute to the kids." Unlike a year ago, when injuries resulted when the horses got spooked during the horse pull, the fair only had a pair of minor incidents. A teenager came off a carnival ride and felt light-headed, while a younger child had a problem with his appendix. Both were taken by ambulance to the hospital as a precaution.
